Meriden’s Best, Consistently Tasty

Meriden’s Best, Consistently Tasty

Taking the Meriden culinary scene by storm when it first opened, Ting Ho quickly became one of the most popular restaurants in town. Conveniently located in Townline Square, this 1,500 ft2 gem has made a name for itself by featuring exceptional service, excellent food, a spotless dining area, and a menu loaded with palatable meal choices.

Living up to its name, Ting Ho, which means “the best” in Chinese, has been delighting customers for the past 15 years with its warp speed delivery service. In addition to take-out and delivery service, Ting Ho also has a dining area that seats 28 people. Kept tidy, simple, and warm, patrons will feel relaxed as they take in the Chinese traditional artistic characters and fan-shaped painting of a horse that adorn the ivory white walls.

A Long Journey

Vincent Yeung, Ting Ho’s owner, took some time to do some research on American tastes before he opened this restaurant in 1995. His research indicated that people living in different parts of America have differing dining preferences.

Yeung has shaped his menu based on customer feedback. By listening to his customers’ feedback, he’s been able to tinker with recipes and make the adjustments needed to create the type of dishes his customers are looking for. And so, Ting Ho’s is able to offer a number of unique and tasty entrées that other restaurants just can’t match.

Consistency is important at any restaurant and that is no exception at Ting Ho. There, each chef is professionally trained and must strictly abide to the restaurant’s recipes when preparing food. If a customer tries a new dish at Ting Ho and loves it, he or she will be able to come back another time, order that dish again, and be treated to the exact same delicious taste.

Like many other Chinese restaurants, Ting Ho’s menu has all the usual stalwarts. Those who often frequent Chinese restaurants will see all their favorites on the menu and a few other dishes they might not have tried as well. Its well balanced selection of Americanized Chinese favorites includes General Tso's Chicken, Chicken Fingers, and Chicken w. Broccoli. Another strength of the menu is its flawless integration of other more traditional elements like Dumplings, Mai Fun (thin rice noodle), Chow Fun (wide rice noodle) and Spring Rolls. For an even more authentic taste experience, customers can order from the traditional Chinese specialties section of the menu.

One of the crowd-pleasers is the Fried Chicken Wings. Not just any dish can attract a following so what makes Ting Ho’s Fried Chicken Wings so special? In order to keep the texture just right, each wing is freshly prepared right after the order is placed. The chicken wings are fully marinated in special homemade sauce.

Another competitive offering is the fried rice. While usually viewed as a comfort food, at Ting Ho, fried rice is turned into a genuine culinary experience that will excite even the most jaded foodie. Every morning, Ting Ho’s chefs prepare fried rice that is made of more than ten ingredients. That’s what makes the Fried Rice taste so special and unique. Then, they skillfully mix it into the dish with pork, chicken, or shrimp bringing out exotic flavors that will have your taste buds dancing.

Americans have become more aware of healthy living than ever. When talking about healthy dishes, Yeung mentioned that Ting Ho has a lot of dishes on its menu and that the chefs are happy to adjust dishes according to customer needs. Some common adjustments are preparing dishes with no sauce, no oil, no salt, or no sugar.

He takes pride in the quality and freshness of the food he prepares. Customers can relax when dining at Ting Ho, because the restaurant only purchases the highest quality goods. The freshness of the ingredients is just as important as the skill of the chefs. Thus, all the goods delivered to the restaurant are inspected by the owner and his kitchen staff.

About Vincent Yeung…

Yeung considers himself very lucky. “My staff members are loyal to Ting Ho and we’ve built a family-like relationship with each other,” he says, adding that he admits there’s a limit to what he can do so he sincerely appreciates his staff’s help throughout these years.

An increasing number of Americans are beginning to show an interest in Chinese dining culture. Yeung believes now is a great time for bringing in some real Oriental delicacies to his restaurant. “I think that people will love being able to order from a menu that has both Americanized Chinese food and authentic Chinese dishes.”

He’s also a self-made man who has climbed his way up the culinary ladder. Beginning his career in Hong Kong as a youth, he’s learned a lot in the past 20 years but he still believes there are things that can be improved. “I think there can be additional menu and recipe adjustments. Customer satisfaction is my goal,” Yeung says.

When asked about how to be successful in the restaurant business, Yeung replies, “I think of this as being the right time, the right place, and me and my staff being the right people to take on the challenge.” So far our efforts have paid off and we’ve been featured on local news and even been highlighted by the Meriden Greater Chamber of Commerce. The media isn’t the only reason why people all around town know about us, the main factor in our success has been the support of our customers who have given us great word of mouth. Because of this, we are the number one Chinese restaurant in Meriden and look forward to being able to continue to provide everyone with great food and speedy service.
