A Real Thai Experience

The Scene

Grand Junction is the largest city in western Colorado.  It is a Home Rule Municipality that is the county seat and the most populous city of Mesa County, Colorado. Grand Junction serves as a major commercial and transportation hub within the large area between the Green River and the Continental Divide. The Colorado National Monument has an awe-inspiring natural beauty with a dramatic red rock landscape and a unique series of canyons and mesas that overlook the city.

Positioned in the city’s newest and most predominant business district is a magnificent Thai restaurant, Thai Chili, situated at 2536 Rimrock Avenue. Suite 700.  It’s nestled alongside the major business loop of I-70 surrounded by large businesses such as Wal-Mart, Sams and Lowes. This family run Thai restaurant is only a short jaunt from many residential areas.  For the past 5 years this relaxed casual restaurant has thrived.  The owner credits some of the success of his establishment to the fantastic location and clearly, locals have found this jewel.  Another credit to their success is that they are unique in this area being the only Thai restaurant within hundreds of miles.  Many of the outer laying communities do their shopping in Grand Junction and will come in to have this magnificent food as a treat before returning to their hometowns.

The restaurant is easily able to accommodate 50 or more guest at a time in its modest dining area. The   majority of the mid-day patrons that frequent this establishment are working class residents that enjoy an elegant meal within a brief time allowance.  It doubles as a very popular location for the evening crowds. Thai Chili is an intimate restaurant with a very comfortable and pleasant ambience. The interior is tidy, bright and welcoming. Traditional Thai décor can be found eloquently placed throughout the dining room including stunning vases and handsome statues and very authentic art arranged on the walls. While the restaurant is less than 1200 square foot it is not overly decorated. The goal of Quanbei is to allow a great meal in a cozy environment. In order to meet the demand of its many patrons Thai Chili offers take -out to people on the go and delivery to the businesses and neighborhoods close by. Thai Chili Restaurant plans to develop and prepare itself for expansion and open new branches.

Customer Focus

Restaurateur Quanbei a 12-year veteran of the food & beverage industry takes pride in his elegantly    prepared   &     artistically   presented South-East Asian dishes. His philosophy is you forge a relationship with your guests, a relationship that helps your business grow and prosper. Exceptional customer service keeps people coming back. “Customer service starts at the top - with us owners and managers. We need to be living pictures of how we want our staff to treat customers. Having 12 plus years operating, owning and working in the food business and being a customer myself, I know what good customer service looks like. If I don't place a high value on the best customer service possible, then my staff won't make it a priority either”.

“When our customers are satisfied we are satisfied.”  He follows by stating word of mouth is also a key to the continued success of our restaurant it brings our new customers, and we convert them to our regulars. The staff tries to remember each customer and make sure to suggest dishes that are based on their individual desires.  Quanbei knows a restaurant isn’t just about cooking and serving food, and his customers prove it by returning again and again. Because we are small business we can deal with each complaint head on and fix the problems and learn from the experience.  We have people return all the time that feel we have made our wrong into a right and they have become some of our best patrons.

Thai cuisine, known for balancing sour, sweet, and salty flavors with chili-infused heat, is represented at Thai Chili  by freshly cooked noodles; myriad curries; deep-fried or sautéed  fish; and chicken, beef, pork, or seafood in sweet chili or hot curry pastes.  One of the most popular dishes that Thai Chili has is their Pad Thai, perhaps second only to Pad Prik Khing.  Some of the other dishes that receive rave reviews are their Goan Pad Pik Kang and the every so tempting Seafood combo.  Every dish has the traditional flavor that people who demand good Thai food expect.  Thai food is internationally famous. Whether chili-hot or comparatively bland, harmony is the guiding principle behind each dish. Thai cuisine is essentially a marriage of centuries-old Eastern and Western influences harmoniously combined into something uniquely Thai. This is the characteristics of Thai food. All of the chefs are trained by Quanbei although he can be found working in the kitchen for up to ten hours a day in order to make sure that his food embodies his high standards.  Some of the standards that are set are that the dishes not only taste incredible, but they must also have a rich and irresistible aroma followed by an extremely pleasing appearance.  He believes that customer service starts in the kitchen even though the chefs and kitchen staff are not seen they are the heart of the restaurant.

Quanbei Zhao spends much time acquiring ingredients from larger cities such as Denver that makes his dishes constantly improved. Every component of his recipes is selected by him. Common herbs include cilantrolemon grassThai basils and mint. Some other common flavors in Thai food come from ginger, galangal, tamarind, turmeric, garlic, soy beans, shallots, white and black peppercorn, kaffir lime and, of course, chilies.  When he is not cooking cuisines or keeping up with his steady growing business he enjoys fishing and spending time with his family.

If you have the opportunity to come in to this fine establishment you will not be disappointed. The customers are always willing to offer their suggestions, and the staff is very well informed of what will make for a great experience in Thai food.
