Chinese food has been a feature of American life since the 19th century, and Chinese take-out has been an indispensable part of the American dining scene ever since the first Chinese restaurants opened their doors. Over the years, restaurateurs have had to learn how to adjust their dishes so that they suit American palates without losing too much of their traditional flavors. Plymouth Garden is one of these eateries that has mastered this and in the process has become a favorite of the locals in Plymouth, Minnesota. What sets Plymouth Garden apart from other take-outs is that the quality of its dishes is equivalent to that of more expensive dine-in restaurants.

Owner Jason Chen is blessed with exceptional management skills and a wealth of experience. Having been in the restaurant industry for more than 10 years, he has learned the ropes of the industry and knows how to keep customers coming back to his restaurant. He points out that the key to drawing the customers back again and again is to provide quality food and service in a friendly and speedy manner.

“We’re going back to basics,” says Jason. “It may be easy to capture the interest of some customers if you offer discounts or coupons, but you need to offer consistently tasty food if you want them to keep coming back.”

Given a glimpse of Plymouth Garden’s versatile menu, you’ll see a lot of familiar dishes. The choices are similar to those you will find at other restaurants. Plymouth Garden’s offerings include the popular General Tso’s Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Szechuan Chicken or Shrimp, Chow Mein, and Fried Rice. These dishes are all prepared in a unique way—giving them a distinct flavor that you won’t be able to find at other Chinese restaurants. This has been one of the restaurant’s drawing points. Infused with an American twist but solidly Chinese, these dishes are sure to satisfy even the most finicky foodies.

A lot of the locals in Plymouth crave delicious chicken dishes and Jason has been listening. To cater to this demand, he’s introduced a wide variety of chicken dishes that are prepared using different cooking methods and sauces. Take the General Tso’s Chicken for example: Plymouth’s General Tso sauce is composed of chili sauce and ketchup, and the result is a combination of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors which give a subtle nuance to the dish.

“The locals love sweet, sour and spicy dishes so we just try to offer more of what they like,” says Jason.

For Jason, offering quality food means maintaining a consistent, healthy and savory taste, and his dedication to quality assurance is evident in the way that he and his staff handle everything from receiving shipments to how food ingredients are stored.

Every morning, Jason and his staff accept fresh shipments of various produce from AsianFood Supply, including meat and vegetables. They then check all the items carefully—picking out the ingredients that are not up to par. Jason admits that even veteran chefs require fresh ingredients to work wonders on a plate.

“Customers can rest assured that our offerings are fresh as we have rigid standards and only accept the freshest ingredients,” he says. “Of course, we also make sure that everything stays fresh by following strict storage and handling guidelines.”

Plymouth Garden also provides a wide selection of nutritious dishes, including vegetable and tofu dishes that can be matched with brown rice. There are also a number of boiled and steamed dishes with no oil, sodium and MSG—allowing customers to enjoy a healthier dining experience.

Friendly and timely service and affordable price are the other two powerful weapons that Jason uses to outwit the competition. On average, an order is taken and prepared within five minutes and delivered within 30 minutes. Even during the busiest of times, the staff keeps their wits about them, making sure to stay friendly with customers while going about their work.

Opened in 2003, Plymouth Garden has seen a steady rise in customer traffic due to Jason’s emphasis on always providing top-notch food and service.
