Chef Chu of Palo Alto Plays Host to Finalists in the World Journal’s 2005 Healthy Cuisine Cooking Contest: Using Restaurant to Host Popular Event Deemed Great Success

Chef Larry Chu, renowned owner of top rated restaurant, Chef Chu's, Los Altos, CA, was selected by World Journal to host the Healthy Cuisine Cooking Contest “cook-off.” This extraordinary event, co-hosted by Cathy Bank and Charity Cultural Services Center, honored Chinese cuisine cooking enthusiasts who could prove that it was possible to create healthy, yet delicious-tasting food. The trendy eatery was packed with local patrons, celebrities, media and food enthusiasts, and saw many participants flaunting creative dishes in front of a panel of judges comprised of famous chefs and food experts, including Betty Xie, Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Restaurant News. The winning dish, created by Madam Cheng, a former engineer from Palo Alto, won the highly coveted title of “Best Healthy Cuisine.” Winter Bamboo Shoots Lion Head was prepared using only healthy ingredients but yet preserving the tastiness of the meatball.
