The Future of Chinese Cuisine and Its 150 Years in the U.S.
In 1849, on Dec. 20, the first Chinese restaurant opened in San Francisco, on what’s now Stockton Street. It was named Canton, and it served “chow chow”, a stir fry dish that helped to ease the home longing of the gold rushers and railroad builders from China.
More than 150 year later, we are coming back to San Francisco, to celebrate the prosperity of Chinese cuisine in the U.S. spreading over 45,000 Chinese restaurants to every neighborhood of the nation. San Francisco alone has nearly 1000 Chinese restaurants, not to say there are more Asian themed restaurants, as well.
Today As we gather with Master Chef Yan, and Bay Area’s top Asian chefs in the Kitchen, we are thankful for the humble start, proud of the booming present, and look forward to another 150 years of prosperity for the Chinese cuisine in the world.
