For the third consecutive summer, NYC & Company is extending Restaurant Week through Labor Day. The promotion, involving some 270 restaurants in the city, was set to expire this Sunday.
About 170 of the eateries—including Nobu, Tribeca Grill, db Bistro Moderne and The Russian Tea Room—have signed on for the additional six weeks.
“We’re in a difficult economy and the more value we can give to our guests the better off we are,” said Tracy Nieporent, a partner in Myriad Restaurant Group and head of NYC & Co.’s restaurant committee.
To that point, the prix fixe menu prices for the promotion have not changed over the past five years. Participating restaurants charge $24.07 for a three-course lunch and $35 for a three-course dinner. Several years ago, the program was increased from one to two weeks, excluding Saturdays.
The city’s tourism bureau will plug the extension into a marketing campaign that will appear on large screens in Times Square, on bus shelters and in a video that will run on the small screens in taxis. The taxi ads will feature Darcel, an imaginary blogger who writes about restaurants for the bureau.
Among the eateries that have opted to end the promotion this week are Morimoto, A Voce Columbus and Remi Restaurant.
“There are some restaurants that decide not to do it, because they feel it’s a price point they can’t afford to continue,” said Mr. Nieporent.
