UNO(R) Teams Up With Barilla(R) For Healthy Pasta Alternative

BOSTON, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Pasta lovers rejoice! Uno Chicago Grill(R) (www.unos.com), recently named the healthiest chain restaurant in America(1), has expanded its relationship with Barilla(R) Pasta and now offers Barilla Whole Grain Penne as a substitute for any of the traditional pastas on its menu.

Made with 51 percent whole wheat, Barilla Whole Grain is all natural and an excellent source of fiber, delivering three times the fiber of regular pasta. As a result, it is the ideal pasta for anyone who wants to add more fiber and whole grains to their diet, but does not want to sacrifice taste.

"We continually look for ways to offer healthy, delicious choices to our guests," said UNO(R) Executive Chef Christopher Gatto. "Barilla products have proven to be a popular choice with diners, and we're delighted to include their whole grain pasta in our selection."

The U.S. government now recommends that at least half of your daily grain servings should be whole grains, due to strong research supporting their health benefits.

UNO offers a selection of exciting pasta dishes on its menu including Chablis Drenched Sauteed Chicken with Garlic and Tomatoes, Lobster and Shrimp Scampi, Chicken Spinoccoli and its popular Rattlesnake Pasta, just to name a few. UNO also offers two exclusive Barilla pastas on its menu - Farmer's Market Penne and Chicken Penne Pomodoro.

The company that was the first to develop deep-dish pizza in 1943 is way deeper than pizza. UNO boasts a number of nutritious firsts, including being the first casual-dining chain to eliminate artificial trans fats in their restaurants. The chain was one of the first to offer a gluten-free menu, which has over 30 items ranging from entrees, salads, soups, drinks and desserts. It was also the first national casual-dining chain to offer a gluten-free pizza. For guest convenience and safety, UNO was among the first to offer nutritional transparency for its menu and clearly identify - via nutritional kiosks in restaurant lobbies - menu items with ingredients that are linked to the most common food allergies, such as fish/shellfish, soy, tree nuts/peanuts, egg, milk and wheat/gluten. Diners can also preview the menu and nutritional information online via the company's website at www.unos.com.
